Cheyenne Motel now a memory


The redevelopment of South Nevada Avenue in Colorado Springs is in full swing, as demolition crews Wednesday razed the old, boarded-up Cheyenne Motel that for years was a magnet for crime in the area. A group headed by downtown businessman Sam Guadagnoli, which owns the property, also recently tore down a nearby building that housed the Taste of Philly restaurant.

Colorado Springs-area homebuilding soars to 10-year high in 2016


The pace of Colorado Springs-area home construction last year climbed to its highest level in a decade, and builders expect the trend to continue in 2017. Permits issued to builders for the construction of single-family homes in El Paso County - one measure of the housing market's health - totaled 3,237 in 2016, according to a report Tuesday by the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department.

Record Growth in Downtown


Downtown Colorado Springs ended 2016 with record-setting growth of street-level businesses. From retail boutiques and restaurants to services and co-working spaces, 23 new street-level businesses opened in the city’s core in 2016, and another 12 businesses announced they will open in 2017, according to the Downtown Partnership of Colorado Springs.

Colorado Springs gets Top Marks


Get ready for more new neighbors; two new studies suggest Colorado Springs continues to have one of the nation's strongest housing markets. A report released Monday by WalletHub, a personal finance website, ranked Colorado Springs as having the 19th best housing market out of 300 cities. And among 62 cities with populations of 300,000 or more, the Springs came in at No. 5.

Colorado Springs Ranks 3rd


LawnStarter, a Texas-based startup that helps people book affordable lawn care, published a report on its blog July 27 listing Colorado Springs No. 3 for “America’s 12 Most On-the-Move Metros.” Data released July 21 from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2014 American Community Survey showed that among the 100 biggest metro areas in the U.S.­–Colorado Springs has had a surge in moving activity and residents.
